Connect a terminal concentrator (fx Annex) to the seriel device. Then
connect to the Annex from home using telnet.

Ole

Most console messages get put into /var/adm/messages and/or /var/log/syslog.
If you want true console access, check out the Console Server 3200 from
Lightwave Communications, or similar products from other vendors.  The
good ones have per port memory, so that the console log of several
machines can be monitored simultaneously.

Thanks for yr advise. So, if I need to monitor TRUE console, then I must
use third party s/w or h/w ?

going a bit further on this topic, why is it that consadm can only
duplicate console messages to another hardware device, and not to a
psuedo device?

and is there any way to export the display of an xconsole window? (when
i try, it displays, but says "couldn't open console")...btw, i am using
ssh to connect and handle all the display redirection...

on an sgi/irix box, i seem to be able to accomplish this with xwsh...(i
export the display of xwsh -console  and it displays messages sent to
the console with fmtmsg)

-rob

Yes - and you'll use a serial console, not a frame buffer/keyboard.
