Why? It is an obsolete OS with no support forthcoming.

If I had any you could have them for free.
Its just basically plain BSD anyway, get a book on that.

I still have my ultrix 1.1 manuals. That was basically
4.2 BSD... was early solaris 4.3 BSD? The big difference that
I remember was that 4.2 thought all the hosts on the Internet
were enumerated in /etc/hosts, while 4.3 had support
for DNS...

I have a complete SunOS 4.x manual set (about 4 feet of shelf space),
but I'm not planning to sell it.  Like others, I have to ask: why are
you trying to use such an old OS for this machine (apart from sheer
nostalgia, which I can see)?  Solaris 9 will be a better option, I think,
and more to the point, it is still supported.

I believe the OP was using a Sparcstation 20.  Is that still supported
on Solaris 9?   Someone also mentioned , in a subsequent post that he
was supporting legacy hardware to communicate with a mainframe and with
a microfilm printer or some such thing.   There could be device driver
issues as well.

Yes, the SS20 is supported by S9 (it is the last versipon of Solaris to
do so).

Yes that's true, although one wonders at the wisdom of keeping such
outdated stuff around when one needs to rely on it.

1. Book -Solaris Solutions for Systems Administrators

Hello,
I am the co-author of a solaris book called Solaris Solutions for System
Administrators.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0471348104  "the amazon.com link"

For any of you that own the book, the authors are interested in feedback
on the content, any typos you may have encountered, and any suggestions
for the next revision.

So far we are looking to incorporate all of the new features of solaris
8, and maybe add sections on time management and vendor management (non
technical but useful skills).

Any input would be greatly appreciated.  It can be sent to either

(myself).  Any contributions will be acknowledged and thanked by name
in the acknowledgements section (which was ommitted from the first
printing arggghh!)

Thanks in advance...
