E250 internal disks: "Sun" disk vs "generic" Seagate disk

E250 internal disks: "Sun" disk vs "generic" Seagate disk

"Sun" disk:
5404177-01 (printed on handle, what number this is?)
  Seagate number: ST318404LC

"generic" disk:
  Seagate number: ST318405LC

The format shows:

# format
Searching for disks...done

AVAILABLE DISK SELECTIONS:
       0. c0t0d0 <SUN9.0G cyl 4924 alt 2 hd 27 sec 133>

       1. c0t8d0 <SUN9.0G cyl 4924 alt 2 hd 27 sec 133>

       2. c0t9d0 <SEAGATE-ST318405LC-5063 cyl 18902 alt 2 hd 4 sec 474>

They both work, but with the generic disk, the disk indicator
light inside E250 is not lit. Do you know why and what should
I do (besides buying Sun disks) to make the light lit? The
generic disk is much cheaper (Sun disks cost about $800).

Thanks.

you can use type command in format utility to make your 'generic' 9G seagate
to look like Sun9.0G. do not forget to backup data....

about the disk indicator - I have seen no problems with generic disks
in different systems (450, U2, ..). you can try different slot or
different disk...
