I am getting the error when I invoke top :top: kvm_read for cpu: Error 0

The machine is sparc 10 with solaris 2.5.1. This the only
machine that has the problem in the network. The binary
for top is the same I use on another sparc 10 machine which
works fine.

Any help is appreciated ...

And multiple processors?

Chances are you are running an old version. Make sure you are using
at least version 3.4. It is available on the comp.sources.unix
archive sites and also in the following locations:
