HP NIS Client to Solaris NIS+ Server.

HP NIS Client to Solaris NIS+ Server.

Post by Cynthia Lu » Thu, 27 Jan 2000 04:00:00

Hi,

I have a Solaris NIS+ Server with HP NIS Client. I have already put the
server in compatibility mode and the automount/autofs work ok.  However,
when I am in the HP Client box, I can't write to the NIS+ Server box.  I was
trying to install some software through my HP box to my Solaris box.  And
since the HP is "nobody" under the compatiblity mode, the server doesn't
allow me to write to it.   Anyone know any work arounds? I woule really
appreciate if someone gives me a pointer or two. Thanks a lot!

Cynthia

It think this isn't a NIS/NIS+ issue, this is a NFS issue.
"root" on NFS clients get mapped to "nobody" on the server to avoid "root"
access to the server filesystems.
You can overide this with the root=<hostname> option of "share", e.g.
share -F nfs -o rw,root=foohost1:foohost1 -d "test for foos" /var/misc2

1. NIS+ : Can an HP be a NIS client to a Sun NIS+ server

Hi,

I have another NIS question. I'm going to be setting up a NIS+ server in NIS compatibility mode (I think). We have mostly sun's running Solaris, one system running SunOS 4.1.3, and one HP system running HP-UX A.09.07. We will be getting in a Silicon Graphics also. My question is can I configure a Sun Solaris system to be a nis+ server with the HP and Silicon Graphics systems being clients?

Thanks Michele
