Repost from com.mail.sendmail, problem with solaris /etc/hosts and sendmail

Post by Ricardo Bosc » Sat, 22 Jun 2002 02:45:54

I posted this mail on com.mail.sendmail with no luck, I believe it may
be an issue with my solaris configuration.

I am on solaris 8 with sendmail 8.9.3.  I can recieve mail but all my
outgoing mails are rejected due to scrwed up domain names

in my sendmail.cf I have set the masquerade line
DMmydomain.com

in my hosts file i have tried my ip as several different manners as my
searches on google have turned up

1)192.168.1.102   mydomain.com     astro   loghost

2)192.168.1.102   astro astro.mydomain.com  loghost

3)192.168.1.102   astro mydomain.com       loghost

the resultant emails going out have the respective domains attached

I'm sure its something simple but I am at wits end.

thanks in advance.

post *.mc file used to generate your sendmail.cf.

I may disagree with the following *random epigram* :

1. mailhost in /etc/mail/sendmail.cf and /etc/hosts

I have found that there is some correlation with the machine with the
alias "mailhost" next to it's name in /etc/hosts and defining the
following in /etc/mail/sendmail.cf   (was main.cf)

DRmailhost
CRmailhost

Here is my question:

I can get mail to function just fine as long as I define some other
machine besides the local machine in /etc/hosts as mailhost

for instance:

This works,

127.0.0.1       localhost
129.207.50.151  machine loghost
129.207.50.1    othermachine    mailhost

This doesn't work,

127.0.0.1       localhost       mailhost
129.207.50.151  machine loghost
129.207.50.1    other machine

I did copy /etc/mail/main.cf to /etc/mail/sendmail.cf and edited it
accordingly, so I am not using the subsidiary.cf file, so that problem
is ruled out.

What do I need to do to make my machine send mail without having to use
an external mailhost?

Chris

BTW:  I fixed the domain getting chopped off thing by editing the
Ethernet Mailer Specification by adding .$m to the following line:

hostname

2. Two disks with rootdg will it work ?

9. USING SENDMAIL "user@domain.com" vs. "user@host.domain.com"
