Files misplaces, root file system full,HELP!

Files misplaces, root file system full,HELP!

Post by kam.. » Sat, 11 Nov 1995 04:00:00

Recentyl I have purchased a 4mm tape drive and have attached it to
my Sun Sparc 20. I wanted to see if the tape drive is working. So
I wanted to copy all the files from my directory to the tape.

I issued the following command:

#cd  /my/directory/path
#tar -c *

The process could not finish. It gave me an error message that
the root file system is full. With 'df -k' I notice the root file
system is 100% full. Now I cannot do anything.

Can anyone help?

It looks like the files were copied to the root file system
rather than to the tape. Any idea why? I tried to locate the
newly created files in the root file system by ' find / -mtime 1'
and it did not help. Is there anyway I can locate those newly
created files?

I am stuck!
help! help!! help!!!
TIA

If you didn't to a boot -r then you probably have a /dev/st?? file
that is rather large.
Need to do the boot -r for the sparc to see the tape drive I believe.

Good luck..

but the filesystem is NOT full! I have fsck'd it to be sure and
rebooted the system 2ce. Any clues?
