Thanks for reading this. Hope you will help me.

I am trying to setup uucp (Taylor uucp v1.06) on my Solaris 2.5.1 running on
Sparc-20. When I am trying to run uucico  with the  following command

uucico -S systemname

The log shows following output

uucp cslhr (5/5-11:41:17,2097,0) ERROR: open (/dev/cua/a): Permission denied
uucp cslhr (5/5-11:41:17,2097,0) ERROR: All matching ports in use

I am using Motorolla Fast Talk II modem and set it to factory defaults by
using at%f command. Its TR and MR lights continuosly on and RD and SD are
blinking simultaneously and repeatedly with some interval.

My uucp/dial file is as follows
dialer          usrob
#chat           "" AT&FL3\\V4\\QQ2E&S1S2=128%L9S0=2 OK ATDT\T CONNECT
chat            "" ATZ OK ATL3M1 OK ATS0=2 OK ATDT\T CONNECT
chat-fail       BUSY
chat-fail       NO\sCARRIER
chat-fail       NO\sDIALTONE
chat-timeout    120

#disable error control
#for zyxel at&k0
#for wb ats180=0

My uucp/port file is as follows

port    com1
type    modem
device  /dev/cua/a
speed   38400
dialer  usrob

port TCP
type tcp

port TCP-CSLHR
type tcp
#port TCP-SDNP
#type tcp
#service 1540

I have configured my modem with following command

I am configuring a Motorolla FastTalk II for uucp setup  on Solaris 2.5.1 and
following command is using for this.

pmadm -a -p zsmon -s a -i root -v `ttyadm -V` -fu \
        -m"`ttyadm -b -S n -d /dev/term/a -s /bin/login \
                -l 38400 -m ldterm,ttcompat`" -y "comment"

and my pmadm -l output shows me

PMTAG          PMTYPE         SVCTAG         FLGS ID       <PMSPECIFIC>
tcp            listen         lp             -    root     - - p -
/var/spool/lp/fifos/listenS5 #
tcp     listen         lpd            -    root
\x00020203000000000000000000000000 - p - /var/spool/lp/fifos/listenBSD #
tcp     listen         0              -    root
\x00020ACE000000000000000000000000 - c - /usr/lib/saf/nlps_server #
zsmon          ttymon         ttya           u    root     /dev/term/a I -
/usr/bin/login - 9600 ldterm,ttcompat ttya login:  - tvi925 y  #
zsmon          ttymon         ttyb           u    root     /dev/term/b I -
/usr/bin/login - 9600 ldterm,ttcompat ttyb login:  - tvi925 y  #
zsmon          ttymon         a              u    root     /dev/term/a b -
/bin/login - 38400 ldterm,ttcompat login:  - - n  #comment

I dont know whats going wrong. I have removed all lock files from
/usr/spool/locks but there is no improvement.

I would be grateful if someone will give me some helpful hints.

Thanks in advance.

Best Regards,

Kunwar Asif Masood

I had this same problem on 2.6...  I found there was either a ttymon
or login running on the port resulting in the port staying locked.  I
could dial in but not out.

I set the modem up as follows:
at&f (factory defaults).
at&D2 (DTR normal)
at&s0=1 (auto answer 1st ring)
at&c1 (normal CD)
at&w (save)

Be sure there are no lock files in /var/spool/locks and that
/dev/cua/a is set to 777.

I simply used admintool to setup the port at modem-bidirectional.

When I was setting up uucp for one of  our labs I hadconnect problems because I ran the commands as
root.  It seems that, at Solaris 2.4/2.5 at least, that
running uucp as root would cause the permissions to

to follow the pathname and reset the permissions.

This might not be your problem, but it might be
something to check out or keep in mind.

Good luck,

Mike Thomas
