by I just upgraded a system from 2.3 to 2.4. The primary application, ARC/INFO,
uses the flexlm license manager. Prior to the upgrade, I could open as
many command tools as I wanted, and run my application in each of them. Now,
each one consumes a license (of which I have only a limited number.)
It looks like the 2.4 system might be generating a utmp entry for each
command tool, where the 2.3 system generated only one.
One workaround is to use xterms with the -ut option, but that is limiting.
Why the change? Can I do anything more effective to fix it?
