Sol 7 file locking problem

Sol 7 file locking problem

Post by Dimitri Maziu » Fri, 14 Feb 2003 06:45:48

Hi all,

I've a program that suddently started failing with ENOLCK when
trying to lock a file on NFS share. Is there a way to check how
many locks there are? What's the default number of locks, and
can it be changed somewhere?

TIA

There is essentially only one way to get ENOLCK over NFS/NLM.
There are more pending blocked locks than there are lockd
server threads. Increase the number of threads by changing
the command line in the init.d file (see man lockd) or
in more recent releases edit the /etc/default file.

Thanks, I'll try restarting lockd with larger nthreads & see what
happens.

1. Samba can't find file locking on Sol 2.6

Samba Version 2.0.6
When running ./configure I get this:

checking for fcntl locking... no
<<SNIP>>
checking if large file support can be enabled
no
checking configure summary
ERROR: No locking available. Running Samba would be unsafe
configure: error: summary failure. Aborting config

This is on a (sparq 10)box running Solaris 2.6 (not sure of patch level)
it runs :
Oracle 7.3.4
Developer 2000 1.3.2

/usr/lib/nfs/lockd is running with no switches

I have another box also running Sol 2.6 it worked just fine. I have
installed Samba on every Sol box I can find and never get that response.
I've been searching the samba archives with no luck, same for Oracle and
Sun. The box is currently running Samba 1.9.17p4, smbstat shows a lot of
exports and a lot of file locks.
