Hi,

setup the PPP package which comes with Solaris 2.x. Look into the Sysadmin
Answerbook for setup information. It works ok for me.

Hello Thomas, I think you want to connect to UNIX Server via modem.
If you are using Solaris 2.5 in client and server machine only need to
install PPP package that allows TCP/IP between machines.

In that way the client machine only need to open a socket whit the
Server one in ports:

25 to use SMTP (send mail)
110 to use POP3 (get mail)

In the Server you need to have so many users accounts as you want
to use. The username and password are the same that you use in a
rlogin with the user you choose.

If you need to know the SMTP or POP3 protocols in order to make
your own clients programs you can read the RFC 821 for SMTP and
RFC 1725 for POP3 server.

If you need more information you can mail me :

Assuming that you have your PPP connection up and running (to your ISP),
I picked up a copy of the ML(camis.stanford.edu) software, built it (it
also comes with an IMAP server that you may or may not be interested in)
and thus far it works fine.

You could try

Solstice Internet Mail Server 2.0 you can download it from

http://www.sun.com/solstice/Networking-products/sims/index.html

You may not need the server but it also includes a POP3, IMAP4
client for Solaris.

The server is on 60 eval, as far a I know the client is free.

1. Help: Eudora mail application cannot connect with POP3 and SMTP server

Hi,

My server is SCO Internet FastStart 1.1. Today, our lan client mail

application (eudora) cannot communicate with the server for checking and

sending mail, but we can still use ppp dailin to server or command line

in server to check and send mail under the same mail account.

For Sending mail, Eudora dialog will show "error writing file to

network"and wait to press stop. The syslog file in server prompt "I/O

error on connection from [172.16.2.63]. Connection reset by peer during

collect with 172.16.2.63." and "SYSERR: putoutmsg([172.16.2.63]): error

on output channel sending '220 ESTMP spoken here': Broken timeout".

For Receiving mail, Eudora dialog can pass the authuication, it will

show "RETR1" and wait to press stop. The syslog file in server prompt

"Unable to get canonical name on client, err=11"

Since we can check and send mail via ppp dialin, I think it may be the

network error in LAN to transfer mail between server and client. I have
recreated the mail box in server, but it is useless. I can ping the
client machine in server successfully.

How to test the mail transfer between client and server in LAN? What's

the problem? How to fix it?

Thank and Regard
