Post by Ralf » Thu, 17 Aug 2000 04:00:00

Hi,

I've the opportunity to install our new E450 with an A1000 attached
(Solaris8 64bit). I used sds to create a mirror for / /usr /local /var
... with the 2 internal 9.1GB HDs. Next I installed
raid_manager_6_1_1_update_2:

installed Solaris8 patch cluster
pkgadd -f ./raid_manager_6_1_1_update_2
shutdown -y -i0 -g0
boot -r

Then I get the following errors:

Hi,

I thought the driver should be installed during boot -r ?!
I just noticed that after I installed Solaris8 yesterday, the format
command showed the ~100GB A1000 device. Now I see only the 2 internal
drives, the A1000 seems to be disappeared.

Waht am I doing wrong?

Thanks
Ralf

Hi John,

thanks for your answer.

Quote:> Have you installed patch 108553-02 - RM6.22 patch for Solaris 8?

Well, I don't know if this patch is the right thing for us.
Sunsolve says:

Keywords: A3500 A3500FC firmware rdriver Solaris8
Synopsis: RAID Manager 6.22: generic RM6.22 patch for Solaris 8

We use an A1000 and Raidmanager 6.1.1 update 2. I tried to install the
patches but get this errors:

## Executing checkinstall script.
PaTcH_MsG 8 Version 6.22,REV=01.14 of SUNWosafw is not installed on this system.
checkinstall script suspends

Installation of <SUNWosafw.2> was suspended (administration).
No changes were made to the system.

Any other ideas?

Ralf

Oops... my fault...  missed your RM6 version.  I would really consider
upgrading to RM6.22.  I know that with 6.1.1 you need a couple of
patches to run under Solaris 7.  If you don't have the patches you have
the problem you are describing. Don't know if 6.1.1 is officially
supported on Solaris 8???

Don't. You need RM 6.22 and patch 108553 (and 109571).

http://www.sun.com/service/online/raid.html

From where you can download RM 6.22, and make sure you read the
instructions in the patch.

uninstall sds, raidmanager.

then install raidmanager again, once installed, you need to create the
LUNs for the A1000, you can have max of 8 LUNs if you use PCI based
system, or max of 16 if SBus.  Once LUNs are created, you can then
reinstall sds.

Hi again,

I want to thank all of you for your help.
I installed RM6.22 + patches + new firmware (took me some time to
understand, that the new firmware is already on the disk).

Now everthing seems to work fine.

Thanks
Ralf

1. new E450+A1000 and Solaris8

Hi,

we just got our new E450/A1000. As far as I know it is not possible to
boot / from the A1000, therefore we ordered the E450 with 2 internal
9.1GB HDs and want to use SDS to create a mirror with the 2 disks (Raid
1, Raid 5/Data -> A1000). Is there something special we have to take
care of (Raidmanager 6.61 and Solaris8)?

Thanks, Ralf
