I want to use regexpr.h because compile() in the latter will
malloc space for the expbuf. Is there a preference? Is one being phased
out? It is more important to me to use whichever will survive the
longest as a bundled feature. Facts preferred, but opinond welcomed.

I believe any new regular expression work in Solaris will use the
POSIX.2 standard regcomp/regexec routines (available in 2.5).  The
include file is regex.h.  If survivability ("forward compatibility"?)
is important, POSIX is probably a good way to go.  Unfortunately the
price you pay is backward compatibility.

The opinions expressed are my own.  Facts, though, are just facts.
