Optical Disk Problem

Post by Jeff Porte » Wed, 22 Dec 1999 04:00:00

Hello,

I have a Maxoptix T5-2600*, and I am able to format/read/write to the
disk using mtools.

My mtools.conf contains the following
---------------------------
#
#  1.2 GB Disk in the Maxoptix T5-2600*
#
drive j:
 file="/dev/rdsk/c0t4d0s2"
 scsi=1
 nodelay
 cylinders=21541
 heads=1
 sectors=54
 mformat_only
 precmd="volcheck -v"
---------------------------

However when I try to read a 1.2 GB disk sent in from a research center
I get the following response
---------------------------
# mdir j:
media was found
init J: sector size too big
Cannot initialize 'J:'
#
---------------------------

I'm sure the data is written in a dos format because when I try the same
command with a non-dos disk, I get a "non - dos media" response.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

1. Magneto Optical disk: problem with Philips

Hello,
does anyone know about the following problem:
near end of media of new 640MB MOs by Philips in a Fujitsu M2513EL drive, I
get I/O errors and often the following messages:

Software or hardware problem??
With MOs by Fujifilm there is no problem.
Kernel version: 2.4.17

Cheers, and TIA for any help!
