Solaris 2.6, in.ftpd, ksh

Solaris 2.6, in.ftpd, ksh

Post by br.. » Wed, 25 Aug 1999 04:00:00

I have a SUN E450 running Solaris 2.6 (Last cluster patch as of
8/18/99) and am having trouble with in.ftpd (logging in to ftp).

Problem is the machine refuses connections from users with /bin/ksh as
a shell. It does accept users with /usr/local/bin/tcsh.

In the following example bruth has tcsh as the shell and target has ksh
as the shell. (It is definately shell dependant, if I change the
default shell of bruth, bruth can't login via ftp). Normal logins over
ssh work for all shells.

Example:

220 kanga.wmht.org FTP server (WMHT Educational Telecommunications)
ready.
Name (gateway:bruth):
331 Password required for bruth.
Password:
230 User bruth logged in.
Remote system type is UNIX.
Using binary mode to transfer files.
ftp> user
(username) target
331 Password required for target.
Password:
530 Login incorrect.
Login failed.

/etc/shells lists:
/usr/local/bin/tcsh
/usr/ksh
/sbin/sh

/etc/ftpusers is nonexistant.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Bong !!
ksh sits in /bin/ksh

Try which <make-of-shell> to check entries in /etc/shells, and verify that
/etc/passwd (or the matching NIS+/NIS table/map) contains the same
abolute path...

>/etc/shells lists:
>/usr/ksh

/usr/ksh != /bin/ksh - the shell names have to match exactly.
