Solstice Backup 5.5.1 queuing of backup jobs?

Solstice Backup 5.5.1 queuing of backup jobs?

Post by charlie36 » Wed, 10 Dec 2003 06:38:25

If I create a client to do a full backup at 2:30a.m. and then create
another client with the same name to do differential backups every 2
hours does Solstice Backup queue the backup jobs if the backup device
is currently being used by either client?

In other words, if the full backup is still writing to tape during the
time that the differential backup arrives at it's execution time, will
the differential backup wait until the full backup is done before
execution?  Or will the differential backup just fail?

Thanks for your help in advance.

I see no reason that it would care that the client is the same name or
not.

What would matter is if it is in the same group.  A group cannot run
twice simultaneoulsy.

I'm not even certain that it would queue.  It might simply run them
simultaneoulsy (depending on client parallelism, server parallelism, and
any other jobs).

How do you have your pools defined? If all backup jobs are using tapes from
the same pool then both of your jobs will run with the data streams going
to the same tapes. If you have seperate pools for each job then the job
that starts last will wait it's turn. It is also quite possible that the
jobs will interleave when tapes are switched if you have an autoloader tape
device.

Are you seeing some thing like Savegrp already running aborted? I am
not sure whether this is he case with you or not. I used to have only
one default policy and my fullbackup would run on 1st and 15th of
every month and diff incr backups for the rest of the month. I had a
server and 4 clients. All these start at 2 15 or 2 30 am in the
morning. If the Full backup is still running when the differential
gets scheduled for it would fail with above error. B T W It was
Solstice backup 5.1. Are these schedules in a single policy or two
different policies? But its been a while I used solstice so I am not
sure.

1. How to backup HA cluster using Solstice Backup?

    Hi,
Does anyone have any experience in setting up backups of a symmetric
HA cluster environment using Solstice Backup?
In particular, I'm interested in how to set up backup of "shared"
filesystems.
The requirements are to be able to perform backups and restores in
normal (2 node) mode and failover (1 node) mode.

Thanks in advance for your help.
