rcp command

Post by David Le » Sat, 06 Oct 2001 17:51:48

Recently I just network these 2 computers together, one is running Solaris
2.6
on the Ultra Sparc, and the other is running Tru64 Unix on an Alpha.  I am
able
to do ftp, rlogin, and telnet from each machine.  However, when I tried to
do a remote copy from a localmachine to a remote host.
%rcp -p localfile remotehostname:/home/mydir and

it both said "application is not operable".
I have included the hostname & IP address in both the /etc/hosts and
/etc/hosts.equiv
Is there something that I am missing?  Do I need to run nfssetup or anything
like that?
Thanks

1. rcp command

Hi  Everyone

Please help me  solving the  following  rcp  ( remote copy ) problem.

Scenario
========

       A                                   B
      Local  Host                      Remote Host
      IP = 137.213.190.215             IP = 137.213.189.213
      Userid = azaman                  Userid = azaman
      $HOME=/home/azaman               $HOME=/home/azaman
      Entry in .rhosts file in $HOME   Entry in  .rhosts  file in $HOME
      137.213.189.213   azaman         137.213.190.215    azaman

Command from  Local Host A
==========================

rcp  137.213.189.213:/home/azaman/test.dat   .

Observation
===========
1.  The  command  such  as this  seems  to  work  intermittently.

2.   We  have a  very  big  network of  AIX  boxes.

3.  I have no problem  doing   FTP   amongst these  boxes  but
    the rcp  command  fails  between many  pairs of  boxes
     with   messages like  as  follows;

     rshd  :  Execute permission  denied

     Your  host name is  unknown for  the address

4.  There  are boxes   between  which  rcp  works  fine and  I  don't
    find  any  differences  in  any of the parameter   files.

5.  Generally
             o  we  do not have hosts.equiv  file  defined
             o  Note all /etc/hosts  files  have entries for  all  the
                boxes on the network.

6.  I  have managed to  perform rcp  between  boxes   where
          /etc/hosts.equiv   files  not defined
          /etc/hosts file  on remote box  does not have an entry
                            for  local  host.

I  will  be very  grateful  for any help  on this.

PLease  e-mail me your   thoughts.

Thanks
