TIMEZONE (TZ) not set

Post by Holger Marz » Sat, 29 Jul 2000 04:00:00

SunOS ssp01a 5.7 Generic_106541-10 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-5_10

Although /etc/TIMEZONE is a symlink to ./default/init and ./default/init
contains

TZ=MET

my TZ after login is "US/Pacific". Sure I could set TZ in /etc/profile
but I want to keep my systems clean and use them as designed. Why
doesn't it work the way it's described?

The TZ variable is inherited from the init(1).  Did you reboot
after changing /etc/default/init?

(I suppose it is assumed you switch a system off when moving it
to a different timezone :-)

It's also possible that someone restarted inetd from his account with
a different TZ set.

After a reboot everything is OK. Thanks.

Holger
make sure it's not getting overridden in /etc/default/login.
