Trying to set up a welcome message for Anonymous FTP

Trying to set up a welcome message for Anonymous FTP

Post by Kurt Cyphe » Fri, 14 Mar 1997 04:00:00

I recently set up an anonymous FTP account on our Solaris 2.3 server at
work, but I haven't been able to figure out how to get it to display a
welcome message when the user logs in, like I've seen done on various FTP
sites I've been to.  I figure I'm probably missing something obvious, but
have no idea what.

Thanks.

The standard FTPD seems to not support this behaviour.
You should download&compile&install&kill-9 oldftpd&run wu-ftpd
Look for wu-ftpd in the archie near you.

i have the following 2 lines in my /etc/ftpaccess file:

message /welcome.msg            login
message .message                cwd=*

then i have a file called welcome.msg in the root directory of my ftp
file syst.

hope this helps.

jeff

You need to run wu-ftp to be able to use the ftpaccess file that Jeffrey describes.
You also need to start ftpd with the "-a" option in inetd.conf to read ftpaccess.

Yes, but you should have wu-ftpd installed for that...
