remote mounted /usr/dt does not give root executable permission

Post by Victor Ng-Thow-Hi » Thu, 04 Apr 1996 04:00:00

I have remote-mounted the /usr partition of a server to set up a
dataless client. The mount is read-only. Unfortunately, several files
in /usr/dt will not execute under root if their permissions are
-r-xr--r--. They will run as root only if I use... -r-xr-xr-x.

Is there a better way around this. I don't really want to make dtlogin
executable by anyone.

Regards,
Victor

You will need to export it with root=client if you want the client's
root account to be able to do things as root on the diskspace.

1. Consequences of moving /usr/dt, /usr/java1.1, /usr/share

Guys,

I've got a pretty full /usr directory and I could free up a bunch of
space by moving /usr/dt, /usr/java1.1 and /usr/share and creating
appropriate links.  Near as I can tell, there's nothing essential to the
boot up process in any of these directories.

Can anybody think of any other consequences?

Thanks,

BV
