top-3.2 on Solaris 2.3

top-3.2 on Solaris 2.3

Post by David Addis » Tue, 14 Dec 1993 23:20:36

Just thought I'd highlight a few difficulties I have had getting 'top' going on
Solaris 2.3.

Having migrated to 2.3, I found that top 3.1 would always bomb out with an
Arithmetic error. I compiled top-3.2 on my 2.3 box and it worked just fine, but
would not run on 2.1 as there is no /usr/lib/libm.so.1
Compiling top-3.2 on Solaris 2.1 causes the same Arithmetic error again 2.3.
The solution I have adopted is to compile the libm.a library into the top binary
on the 2.3 machine. This binary now seems to work just fine on both 2.1 & 2.3.

Has anyone else experienced these problems ?

When I compile and run top-2.3 on Solaris 2.3 it fails with this error:

top: kvm_read for cpu: Error 0

It fails on two of our three Solaris 2.3 machines.

Solaris 2.3 machines Fails: 4/670-512  SS10-412
Solaris 2.3 machines Works: IPC

The patturn would seem to be that both machines it fails on have two
processors, either two 51s or two 41s.  How can I get this to work?  I
really need top.

Quote from the top-3.3beta README file ...

Multiprocessor Solaris 2 machines:

There is a bug in the sunos5 module which prevents it from working
correctly on machines that contain more than one processor (single
processor sun4m machines seem to run just fine).  A fix is pending.

1. top-3.3beta for MP machines running Solaris 2.3???

Hi!

Has anyone written a module for SunOS 5.x multiprocessor machines
for the system monitoring program top-3.3beta?

I have seen that there is a m_sunos4mp.c module so I'd like to know
if somewhere in the world is also something like a m_sunos5mp.c
