I try to install mysql on both solaris 7 and solaris 8 Sparc and
install.
But i am having problem on both methods:

1.-- compile the source
I download the soruce code: mysql-3.23.43.tar.gz
and compile it. the following are the message:

checking for objdir... .libs
creating libtool
updating cache ./config.cache
loading cache ./config.cache
checking for a BSD compatible install... /opt/sfw/bin/ginstall -c
checking for bison... bison -y
checking for pdftex... no
checking return type of sprintf... configure: error: can not run test
program while cross compiling

so if i type in MAKE
it will give:
Fatal error: No arguments to build

2. -- binary package
I download the package: mysql-3.22.25-solaris7-x86.pkg.gz
and unzipped it.

the following is the error message:

# mysql
ld.so.1: mysql: fatal: libmysqlclient.so.6: open failed: No such file or
directory
Killed

can anyone give me a hang?

Find what directory that library is in an add it to your
LD_LIBRARY_PATH.

better solution, since he has the source:
export LD_RUN_PATH
LD_RUN_PATH=/everything/you/need/here

for example,

LD_RUN_PATH=/usr/local/lib:/opt/sfw/lib:/usr/local/mysql/lib

Then run the compile, and if it doesnt use -R in the makefiles, it will
automatically have the equivalent -R option added to the link stage.

Hi

I got the "cross compiling" error message when I was trying to compile
MySQL on x86 Solaris 8. The gcc-2.95 that is on the Solaris freeware CD
seems to have been built as a cross compiler. I downloaded gcc-3.0.1,
which was then the latest, and built it and installed it as a native
compiler. Using that gcc-3.0.1, I didn't have any problems building
MySQL anymore.
Since then gcc-3.0.2 has been released. You may want to try that version.

I tried both method.
I install the gcc3-0-1,
it can't compile Mysql,
when I MAKE it, it tells me that can't creat excutable files.

I tried to update the LD_LIBRARY_PATH
and doesn't work too.
what;s the difference of LD_LIBRARY_PATH and LD_RUN_PATH??

can anyone give me a hand?

I tried both and doesn't work.

I installed gcc3-0-1
