Slow Web browser

Post by Atlan.. » Mon, 28 Jun 1999 04:00:00

Is it me or has anyone else found the Web response through the Sun Java
browser extremely slow. Maybe someone has had experience with this and
can offer a few ideas of what to look for.

I have Solaris 7 on an Amd K6-2 300 3d now processor,  proxied through
my NT4.0 server with proxy server 2.0 with a cable modem..  It  does not
look like a proxy problem because the other machines (Win98, NTWkst)
proxy through at a very high speed.

Help appreciated

Yes, I found it painfully slow.  Using Netscape for Solaris was MUCH faster.

1. Graphical web browsers slow to load.

I recently got an 850MB HD, allowing me to have a full distribution of
Slackware for the first time. I have 8MB ram and 50MB swap on my 386/25.

The system is normally fine. X is a little slow, and I have problems with my
diamond card, but none of that is out of the ordinary. However, I have tried
every graphical web browser I could find, and they each took about 5 minutes
to load into memory, during which time the mouse would freeze up and I
couldn't change virtual consoles. Once they loaded, everything was fine.

Can someone tell me if this is normal behavior?
