No, it's not.  (For starters, Solaris 7 includes X11R6 & Motif 2.1,
which are used by it's version of CDE - 2.5.1 only includes X11R5 and
Motif 1.2.)

Because it is impossible to predict the future, Solaris 2.5.1 is not FORWARD
compatible with Solaris 7 binaries. Any Solaris 7 binaries that run on Solaris
2.5.1 are the result of PURE DUMB LUCK. There is a 99.9% chance that even if
you manage to get it installed, it probably won't run when you try to start
it.

This won't work. If you were on 2.6, you could
install the Solaris Desktop Extensions to get most
of the functionality.

No, but there is a version of CDE that came with the server pak of later
releases of 2.5.1.  If you could get a copy of that, you could install
CDE on 2.5.1.

1. CDE/1.2 (Solaris/2.6) vs CDE/1.0.2 (Solaris/2.5.1) -- Login-Screen Question

Shalom!

Under CDE/1.0.2 (Solaris/2.5.1), the Dtlogin screen gives me the following
session choices:

        Regular Desktop  [default]
        Common Desktop Environment (CDE)
        Openwindows Desktop
        User's Last Desktop
        Failsafe Session

However, under CDE/1.2 (Solaris/2.6), the Dtlogin screen only gives me these
session choices:

        Common Desktop Environment (CDE)  [default]
        Openwindows Desktop
        User's Last Desktop
        Failsafe Session

We need the "Regular Desktop" session back -- what to do? (and, does anyone
know why it's gone missing?)

Thanks in advance!
