ppp dial-up question

ppp dial-up question

Post by Jordan Dimitro » Thu, 04 Nov 1999 04:00:00

Hi there,

I'm running S_x86 at home and I'm trying to configure the aspppd with
an ISP but it seems to me that the aspppd cannot establish the link
correctly. Here is the result of 'tail asppp.log':

# tail -f /var/adm/log/asppp.log
sendthem (j.dimitrov^M)
expect: (word:)
 j.dimitrov^M^JPassword:got it
sendthem (**********^M)
call cleanup(0)
23:34:37 process_ppp_msg: TL_UP from unknown protocol -538126440
23:34:37 000001 ipdptp0 ppp_diag: SEND PPP ASYNC 23 Octets LCP Config-Req  ID=00 LEN=18 MRU=1500 MAG#=fbb49f2b ProtFCOMP AddrCCOMP
23:34:40 000002 ipdptp0 ppp_diag: PPP ASYNC DEVICE HANGUP
23:34:40 000003 ipdptp0 ppp_diag: PPP DIAG CLOSE
23:36:18 Link manager (384) exited 11/02/99

I asked my ISP what is happening after the login + Password
authentication and they said that their machine is sending the
dynamic IP address. Despite the fact that I've got 'negotiate_address
on' in my /etc/asppp.cf file, my machine does not recognize what the
peer is sending and, as it seems to me, the peer closes the
connection. I'm following the guide at
http://www.kempston.net/solaris/connectanyisp.html but obviously I'm
doing something wrong. Can anyone help? I'd appreciate if you send
your reply to my mail address as well.

Thanks,

Check your etc/asppp.cf for the following lines:

will_do_authentication pap
pap_id j.dimitrov
pap_password *********

Try this.

ppp dial-up question

Thanks James,

Your hint helped me! I trusted the people from the techsupport team
that they were using simple login+passwd authentication only but it
turned out that they use PAP instead. Thanks again to all the chaps
for the help!

Cheers,

1. 2.3 -> 2.7 via Dial-up (Re: CVS over 'dropping' dial-ups)

You are better off borrowing/buying/stealing a CD and loading a fresh 2.7
install.
From what I've heard, there are issues with upgrading via CVS.  Plus, it's
_SLOW_.
Trust me. If you don't have the cash (US $30, I believe) you could probably
ask
somebody to copy their 2.7 CD for you (hint, hint).  Of course, buying the CD
makes
OBSD 2.8 and higher a possibility, which is a Good Thing.

Good luck.
