Always reboot due to missing file .....

Always reboot due to missing file .....

Hi,
I have the following bootup problem. Machine seemed to always reboot
.......

Boot device: disk  File and args:
     SunOS Release 5.6 Version Generic_105181-12 [UNIX(R) System V
     Release 4.0]
Copyright (c) 1983-1997, Sun Microsystems, Inc.
     init: Cannot find /etc/lib/ld.so.1
     Can't invoke /etc/init, error 2
     panic[cpu0]/thread=0x6045fe60: icode
     syncing file systems... done
     rebooting...
     Resetting ...

I mounted the HDD and checked that this file "/etc/lib/ld.so.1"
is really missing !! So, I copied this file fr CD-ROM to the HDD and it
was now able to boot up perfectly !!

Am I doing the right thing ?? Will there be any side effect
.......

      Need some reassurance.
      Thanks.

Regards,
Francis.

Probably worth doing a check on other packages for missing files.  Check out
the man page for "pkgchk".  This util can report on any files which have
disappeared since installation time......
