Help with CDROM & Sybase, part II ...%^)

Post by Edgar Valencia Figueroa » Sun, 01 May 1994 06:44:15

        Hi!!

I think I don't explained myself very well in my previous
message, so here is the second part.
We are using a SparcCenter 10 running Solaris 2.2.
We want to access a database from SYBASE, but the problem is that
the database is in a CDROM. We have the Young Mind's software for
master/premastering info. and we recorded that database.
When it finish we want to  test that image mounting it in a HD partition
of the SUN. The information recorded is ISO 9660 compliant and because
it acts like a CDROM we most mount it like a HSFS and read-only.
Now the sad story: Sybase can manage their devices in two ways:
one as a raw device and the other like a ufs. Because we want to record
this information in the CDROM, we must use this option, i.e. like a ufs.
After the "disk init" command from SYBASE, it store the database
like:

tzetzal# ls -al /test
total 618324
drwxr-xr-x   3 sybase   sistemas     512 Apr 28 12:09 .
drwxr-xr-x  31 root     root        1024 Apr 29 13:02 ..
-rw-r--r--   1 sybase   sistemas 427503616 Apr 28 12:35 test.dat
drwx------   2 sybase   sistemas    8192 Apr 20 12:27 lost+found

Now we use the software from YoungMinds for the premastering and
it store the premaster image in /dev/rmt/1. After that we use the command
"dd" as follow:
        dd if=/dev/rmt/1 of=/dev/rdsk/c1t3d0s3

And now, we want to test it, so we mounted:

        mount -F hsfs -r /dev/dsk/c1t3d0s3 /test

Naturaly, we "umount" our previous information before this command.

tzetzal# ls -al /test
total 618324
dr-xr-xr-x   3 root     root         512 Apr 28 12:09 .
drwxr-xr-x  31 root     root        1024 Apr 29 13:02 ..
-rw-r--r--   1 sybase   sistemas 427503616 Apr 28 12:35 historias.dat
drwx------   2 sybase   sistemas    8192 Apr 20 12:27 lost+found

When we start SYBASE for the recognition of our database, it
can't access it because is read only and owns to root.

        The questions are:

        1) Does any body knows if SYBASE can access databases from a CDROM?
        2) How can I mount a CDROM without the option -r ?
        3) How can I change the permissions ?
        ( We tried mount -F hsfs -r -o setuid=sybase ...... it doesn't work)

The staff of SYBASE here in Mexico don't have information
available for this topic.

I'm sorry for the large of the message, and for my poor english!
        Thanks!!!!

1. Help with CDROM...%^)

 Hi everybody!!

We are testing the recording of a database in CDROM.
First, we make a premaster ISO 9660 image with Young Mind's software,
and now we want to test our data.
We make a "dd" copy as follow:

        dd if=/dev/rmt/1 of=/dev/rdsk/c1t3d0s3
and then mount the image to disk with:

        mount -F hsfs -o ro /dev/dsk/c1t3d0s3 /test

but then the permission to access /test are as follow:

        drwxr-xr-x   2 root     other        512 Apr 25 18:12 test

now the sad story is that SYBASE (DBMS) need to own this directory in
order to use it.
How can I change the permissions?
How can I mount from root changing the owning of the directory?

We are in a SparcStation 10 running Solaris 2.2

        Thanks in advance!!!!
