dmesg and monitor resolution

Post by Elliott Hug » Wed, 08 Aug 2001 00:00:38

I recently replaced the monitor on my Sparc Solaris 2.5. But when I ran
"dmesg" command on dtterm window, a lot of junk characters appear in the
window. I have to close dtterm completely to quit it. Anybody can tell
me how to solve this problem?

Plus, how can I change a monitor's resolution on Solaris 2.5? I played
with the buttons on the monitor but couldn't figure it out.

Thank you in advance,

Eli

Thank you for your reply. I am an idiot on Sparc hardware. What I want to do is
change the monitor's resolution (like in Windows, there is an icon for
resolution setup.) I don't know what is framebuffer :(. All I know is that the
Sparc box is running Solaris 2.5. Thanks again.

There is no icon, that's for sure.

Without knowing what SPARC you have, or what framebuffer you have, there is no
way anyone can tell you how to change the resolution, or IF the resolution can
be changed.

Go read the Framebuffer FAQ at http://www.sunhelp.org.

dmesg and monitor resolution

I forgot to mention one thing: "uname -m" command gives me output "sun4m". But there
is no file in my system's /usr/platform/sun4m/sbin/ directory called "prtdiag",
whose man page said this file is only available in sun4d  system.

Correct.  prtdiag is only there on sun4d (and in fact sun4u).
