Well, it already does: localhost.

But that's probably not what you mean...

Which network interface are you talking about here?
PPP?  Ethernet?  SLIP?  Token ring?

Dial up?  ISDN?  Frame relay?

You need to provide more info than this...

If you're going through an ISP of some kind, have
you talked to them?  You could be wasting your time
here (well, you never know...).

Your SPARC will never have a static address.  Your operating
system MAY have a static address, depending on what type of
network interface you are trying to configure.

Your question is so lacking in details that a good answer
   is difficult.

If you mean IP address, first you go get an Internet Service
Provider that will be willing to give you an address.  This
typically has a small extra cost.

Once you have that, perhaps posting the type of address you
are trying to configure, your operating system level, and
the type of link you are trying to configure that address
   on will yield better answers.

Are you trying to get answers to how to create a static IP

Everyone is assuming that he is connected to the Internet.  Maybe it is on a
closed LAN.  If so he can give it any IP address he wants to.

1. 'Static Hostnames' while having a dynamic IP address

How is everyone?

I was wondering, if there was such a technique to like say assign a static
hostname while i'm using a dynamic address.  Like for example,
eric.ispprovider.com instead of having dial***.ispprovider.com everytime
being different.

I was talking with the ISP sysop and he was like he has sceen it before
but doesn't know how to do it or who to talk to.  If y'all could help I
would be grateful.
