cannot load module 'pdwa' error after Solaris 8 upgrade

Post by Bernie Harri » Wed, 05 Apr 2000 04:00:00

After upgrading an Intel system from Solaris 7 to Solaris 8, I get the
following error messages during boot up:

/platform/i86pc/kernel/misc/pdwa: undefined symbol 'kernelmap'
/platform/i86pc/kernel/misc/pdwa: undefined symbol 'Sysbase'
WARNING: mod_load: cannot load module 'pdwa'
can't load module: No such file or directory

The messages appear on the console shortly after the network device is
configured and before single user state.  It doesn't appear to cause a
significant problem.  Does anyone know what module pdwa does?  Should it
have been deleted by the upgrade?

Thanks,

Bernie

pdwa is a module that was released as a 2.4-2.6 Solaris/Intel patch.
The upgrade proicess should have removed it.

Remove the /etc/init.d/pdwa script an dteh files it links to.

I wonder why you didn't have a problem with this in S7; my system crashed
when I tried to load this in 2.7.

Perhaps you don't have one of the affected Pentiums?  (F00F bug affected
early pentiums < 120MHz?)
