Generally what is the reason of system down & do self-rebooting?

We have a server-machine having specs:
SunOs 5.5.1 Generic_103640-03 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-2&.
And there are some daemons running in it.
By the way, frequently the server has downed.
Generally, in which conditions does system come to
be downed & do self-rebooting?

1. Open Sound System & RedHat 4.1 & elf-binaries-self-extracting

I'm using Redhat4.1 Linux, and I'd like to have sound (SoundBlaster
Pro), but I don't want to recompile the kernel just for sound.

As a few in this newsgroup have pointed out Open Sound System from
www.4front-tech.com

has a program Osslinux that provides sound support for linux without
recompiling th kernel.

I've downloaded a from 4front's web site tar.gz file for (kernel
2.0.27), gunzipped it, and typed tar -xf osslinux-something-something.
Then I get an INSTALL text file telling me to execute the elf-binary
self-extracting file osslinux.runme.

Do I just type "osslinux.runme"?  That's not working (i.e. bash:
osslinux.runme: command not found)

What's wrong?
