Binary editor for Solaris2.3

Hello fans of Solaris2.3,

I'm searching for a binary editor for Solaris2.3. I've tried beav, but I
won't get it running; it always aborts with a bus error (compiled with
gcc2.5.8). I've heard from some gurus they couldn't get it running, so I
novice won't try anymore.

Does anybody know of an alternative to beav which runs under Solaris2.3?

Thanks in advance,

If you have a recent version of emacs, there is a utility with it called
hexl which can be used to essentially do a hex dump of a file into a
buffer, where you can then edit it.  It requires you to compile hexl.c and
put it it the search path, and also to add the following lines to your
.emacs file:

(autoload 'hexl-find-file "hexl"
"Edit file FILENAME in hexl-mode." t)
(define-key global-map "\C-c\C-h" 'hexl-find-file)

I found hexl.c in "emacs_home_dir/etc", and the hexl.el file in
"emacs_home_dir/lisp/packages".  hexl.el has some instructions on bringing
the functionality into emacs.  Once installed, you can start emacs, type
C-c C-h, and emacs will prompt you for a filename to edit in hex mode.

You do not say what your want to do, but I occasionally need to change
something in an executable (filename, hostname, domainname) and do so with
GNU emacs.  It is rather limited, but can do some things.

1. Does anyone have ssh binaries for Solaris2.5.1 or Solaris2.6?

Hello,

I've tried compiling ssh 2.0.10 on solaris 2.5.1
After dealing with many errors, I finally compiled
it and now all the server does is panic my machine
when I try and use it.
I think maybe I didn't get a good compiled binary.

Can anyone send me the ssh server and client
binaries for either sol2.5.1 or sol2.6?

Thank you very much
Brandon
