1. Kernel Fatal trap 12 error with adaptec 2940 u2w scsi card

I am having trouble building a FreeBSD kernel that won't fly straight into a
FATAL TRAP 12 error just before the kernel sees the harddiscs in my system.

I have completely cleaned my /usr/src system (deleted it), CVSUPed a clean
RELENENG_4 tree, made buildworld, made kernel, installed kernel, installed
world, mergemastered

The "fatal trap 12 error" doesn't happen when:

* I boot a generic 4.3 relesae kernel (i didn't compile it, it came with the
binary install).
* I remove the Adaptec 2940u2w scsi card (Yes it works fine with the 4.3
release kernel)

I have also mounted the system drive in another machine (identical hardware)
and then I can replicate the error. Somehow, the kernels I build (no strange
make options) just don't work when the adaptec card is in. A simple 4.3
generic one will.....

I am going mad here... is there a bug in 4.4 stable that conflicts with the
Adaptec 2940 u2w scsi card?
