Has anyone been successful profiling a Solaris 2.3 or 2.4 kernel
using kgmon? Each time I try the system hangs after executing
kgmon -i. Any suggestions?

kgmon is broken for sun4m kernels (i.e. SS5, SS10 etc) in 2.4
It works for sun4d (SS1000, SC2000) I think....

I put a big warning about it being unsupported etc when I showed how to use in in
my book, but didn't realise that it was broken at the time. Sorry :-(

1. Solaris kernel profiling (kgmon)

i wonder if anyone can help with kernel profiling in Solaris 2.4
/usr/bin/kgmon exists but there is no man page nor anything in the
answerbooks. "kgmon -i" crashes the machine.

do we need to build a profiling version of the kernel? is any special
configuration required?

thanks in advance,

2. using setpgrp(2) from Bourne shell?
