need help with turning on YP compatibility mode of NIS+

Post by Michael G. DeLoo » Sat, 04 Feb 1995 01:39:25

Hello,

I've been running NIS+ on Solaris 2.3 for a while.  I now want to turn
on YP compatibility mode to allow my NIS+ master server to act as the
NIS master server for other platforms (HP, DEC) running NIS.  I know I
need to start rpc.nisd with the -Y option.  What else needs to be
done?  Any known problems?

Thanks,

-mgd

But we all want to see the answers!

Yet another question on switching NIS+ to NIS compatible mode!

How would you create an NIS compatible domain with a different name from
the NIS+ domain. I.e. if the nis+ domain is nis+.do.main; how
can an nis domain with a name nis.nis+.do.main be created to be compatible
to the last nis+ domain.
Will a simple link of the domain directory
under /var/yp works??? E.g.
ln -s /var/yp/nis+.do.main /var/yp/nis.nis+.do.main

1. Nis+ and NIS (YP) compatibility

Hi,

Is there any way to make the old-fashioned yppasswd change the password on a
Solaris x86 2.4 server that runs NIS+ ? We use Solaris as NIS+ server, and have
several machines getting the password database from it, and would like our
users to be able to change their password locally, without first having to
telnet to our server and type nispasswd there. The other machines are mostly
different Hewlett Packard machines running various HPUX versions..
