Problems with Solaris New installation

Post by Sako » Tue, 28 Jun 2005 17:55:51

Hi Gents,I'm a neewbie that's trying to get in touch with SUN
systems. I've got a Sun Blade 100 that I wish I could re-install.
My problem is that either with the original Solaris 8 CDs , or the
solaris 9 copy I have, I couldn't do.
When I type boot cdrom, it just makes as it will read, and it says
"Label not found" and gives problems reading these.
I found problems with one of the copies because it was the x86
version, but the copy of solaris 9 I asked SUN for should work
Any ideas of how could this work ?

The only thing I do is : "stop + A " and type "Boot cdrom"

Hope you can help me , thanks and regards.

you have no chance at all unless you can be 100% certain these are
sparc CDs.

assuming sparc CDs, boot cdrom ought to be enough.
boot cdrom -s
will boot from CD into single user.  personally, under these slightly
brutal circumstances, i'd start with the "1 of 2" solaris 9 CD.
that's how i install from CD, when it comes to it....

is there any sort of OS on the machine?  if so, just put the CD
in and see whether you can read it.  let's first establish that
the hardware is good, and that the CD drive is working.

Are you sure you have original Solaris 8 CDs?
It seems they are in the wrong format, i.e. a format that is not readable
by the boot firmware.

Of course there could also be a problem with the CDROM.
Does
ok> probe-ide
list it?

1. New to Solaris: Installation Problem

Hi

I tried to install Solaris 7
on my PC :

--processor: P200MMX
--mainboard: Asus SP97XV with videoadaptor  on board
--networkadaptor: Noname NE2000 compatible
--hard disk: IBM 6.3 GB EIDE
--cdrom: Mitsumi CR2801

But during the installation the system always
stalls during the hardware scan of the hardware  detection disk.
This also happens if I select only some of the devices.

What can I try to do to solve this problem?

Can I also install Solaris 7 without this hardware scan ?

Are there some trouble shooting pages for solaris
installation on the net ?

Thanks in advance
