Opening a file in File Manager

Opening a file in File Manager

My applications (created with Sun Studio Fortran 95 under Solaris 8)
create several plain, vanilla ASCII text files.  When I view the directory
in File Manager the icons for those text files are the interconnected
gears, indicating a PID.  When I double-click on the icons (wanting to
view them with the screen editor) I do indeed get an error message
indicating that I can't open them.  Write-clicking on the icons doesn't
give the option of opening the files.

I *can* open the files from within the Screen Editor itself, but opening
them from within File Manager is more convenient.

How do I associate an action (such as using the Screen Editor to open the
file) with a particular file or file type in File Manager?  Or is there
something I can do in the apps that creates the files?  Or a Sun Studio
linker option?

I would think one could do this from within File Manager, but I don't see
how to do it.

Thanks,

Bryan

If you are using CDE's File Manager, check docs.sun.com

Thanks, that did the trick.

1. Open File Manager (open file backup) for Linux?

Is there a way to back up open files on a Linux machine?

I've been looking into setting up a file server using Linux using mars-nwe, to
service a couple DOS and NT clients.

If I use NT Server I can get a program called Open File Manager from St.
Bernard Software that does the trick.

Anyone know of such a program or feature under Linux??
