Very Computer

Using an Adaptec 1542-CF ISA card and Conner 1060S 1Gig drive, Solaris 2.4
will boot off the SCSI drive, start to load with the spinning text wheel
going for 10 seconds or so, and then the kernel just panics!

I've had this happen on a Compaq 486 and a Gateway 2000 P5-90.  I assume the
board is set wrong as I can't believe no one uses a combo of Adaptec 1542 and
a Gig SCSI drive.

Any ideas???

Same thing happend to me and 1 other person I know.  I had the 1542C.
I spent nights and nights trying to get it going.  Try using the
"update" disks, I've put all of them in ftp.csua.berkeley.edu in
/pub/x86solaris.  Be advised that it'll most likely mess with your C:.
If everything works out OK, after the installatin is done, if you still
have problems booting, then the only way you can probably fix that is if
you either get a different configuration or if you boot off the
update disk.
