It's perhaps a better idea to use fssnap when doing backups, see

However, if you want to unmirror the disk temporarily, you could just
metadetach the mirror, but I suspect your script might fail even if it's a
one way mirror.
Turning off all the metadevices via /etc/vfstab and /etc/system sounds a bit
drastic just to check disks and do a backup, mind you.
