Where is libCstd.so under Solaris 8?

Post by Robert Heus » Sat, 16 Feb 2002 17:58:51

Hello,
I have just tried to install a trial-version of the i-planet directory server
on our Solaris 8 machine.
At some point I got an error message that libCstd.so could not be found.
Indeed, it is not on our machine. I found an older thread in this
group starting that this file belongs to SUNWlibC / SUNWlibCx.
I installed both of them but the desired lib was not in.

Any ideas where this lib lives nowadays?

regards
robert

It came in with patches 108434-02/108435-02 (32bit and 64bit version
of the libC patch). You should install the most recent revisions
(-04 as of now) of these patches. They are recommended patches, so
they are available for non-contract customers, too, via sunsolve.sun.com.

1. Dynamic linking of libCstd.so on Solaris

Platform: Solaris 7 SPARC
Compiler: Sun Workshop C++ 5.0

Since migrating to the C++ standard library my executable
files have skyrocketed in size. For example, a 120k program
jumped up to 750k.  ldd output does not list libCstd, so I am
assuming that it is getting linked staticly which results in
the huge executable files.  I can't seem to find a way to get
Sun Workshop to link libCstd dynamicly.  There isn't even a
libCstd.so file, just a libCstd.a file.  Is there anyway to
convert the .a file to a .so?  Do I need to upgrade to 6.0?
I have a lot of executable files to distribute and I can't
afford to have 500 kbytes of baggage in every one of them.
