NIS & password aging

NIS & password aging

Post by don.cunning.. » Thu, 11 Jun 1998 04:00:00

Is it possible to setup password aging in a Solaris 2.x NIS environment?
I've been digging for info about this and nothing I've read says you can't
do it, but my recent experimenting suggests that it doesn't work. So I'm
looking for some confirmation one way or the other.

Thanks.

Last time I investigated this (SunOS 4.1.3, but I doubt that it's
changed for Solaris), rpc.yppasswdd did not understand password
aging, making it impossible for users to change their passwords.

I've written a Perl script to do this; you can download it from

1. NIS password aging HPUX & OSF/1

I'm running a mixed platform of HP(HPUX) and DEC(OSF/1) systems
in an NIS environment. I need to setup the password aging facility
for our systems and it seems that it is NOT possible because OSF/1
and HPUX use different methods for password aging.

Has anyone done this before and is there any product that does it ?
