Increasing NGROUPS_MAX in Solaris 2.5

Increasing NGROUPS_MAX in Solaris 2.5

Post by Brian Bourgo » Thu, 11 Feb 1999 04:00:00

I am running Solaris 2.5 on a Web Server.  We have a large number of groups
for each subarea of our web, but we also have a general internet service
specialist who needs access to all areas.  I have made him a member of all
groups, but grpck says he is in too many groups.  According the man page on
the group file, there is a variable NGROUPS.MAX that specifies this group
maximum.  Does anyone know how to change this?  Any help would be
appreciated.

/etc/system is the file to be I think.

Something like
set ngroups_max=32 might do the trick.

If I recall correctly, 32 is the limit in Solaris BUT:....

NFS has a limit of 16!!

Setting ngroups_max to a number above 16 might result in RPC errors
when accessing a NFS file system.

How about ACL usage. The "work" in 2.5.1. I do not know about 2.5
However in 2.5.1 there are some ACL problems which only appear to
be solved in Solaris 7.

Hope to have been of help.

1. In search of Solaris 2.5 Netscape Navigator 3.0 plug ins

I am searching for plugins for Netscape Navigator on a SPARC Solaris 2.5
system.  While any help would be appreciated, I am especially looking for
plugs for RealAudio, wav, and Shockwave files.

Surely I don't have to go out and buy an IBM PC running windows or a
just to be able to access sites which use these technologies.
