Very Computer

Hallo,

I am running 2.6  ( base build, methinks )

and have  done a " dtconfig e"  and re booted.

The CDE still does not come up.

How can I either autostart this

    or

Start it manually?

Any help most welcom

that would be 'dtconfig -e' and shouldn't be necessary
after a base install - dtlogin (CDE) should come up by default.

try '/etc/init.d/dtlogin start'. If this doesn't work you have
a different problem. If this works, but it doesn't autostart,
look if "/etc/rc2.d/S99dtlogin" exists. It should be a (hard)link
to /etc/init.d/dtlogin.

||  It didn't!  but thanks for trying anyway. I tried all of this before
posting.....

- try to run the above with 'sh -x' to see where it fails.
- look in /var/dt (esp. the Xerrors file). Do you see any messages
  there ? BTW - your ARE running this as root, right ?
- try to start dtlogin with truss to see where it fails.

I boneheadedly did not reboot with the "r" flag.

That's almost as silly as Solaris not recognizing
new hardware ( frame buffer ) on a cold boot. Now,
if it were Sequent hardware.....<GG>
