Sunray as DHCP client to NT DHCP server

Sunray as DHCP client to NT DHCP server

Post by Callati » Tue, 23 May 2000 04:00:00

Hi,

I've been trying without much success to have my Sunray machines
work as DHCP clients to NT based DHCP servers.

I add the MAC address as a reserved Ip to the NT but nothing
changes...

How can I debug this?

Thank you

I can't help but ask -- why do you want to do this?
Sunrays are supposed to talk only via dedicated Ethernet to their
master host, which (as far as I know) has to be a Solaris box.

That's a real problem (I've had it myself with my ISP), but surely it's
a different problem.  Sunrays are not Unix clients.  They shouldn't
talk to NT servers directly.

THis is a problem we have also with any unix client that needs DHCP
service from a server that only gives IP's with out names like NETID.
THe Client needs to registrate itself in this DNS server and  fails to
do so,
he gets an IP but no name,
If you resolve this please inform us as well.

    THanks D.J.

This will not work. Sun rays need a lot more than dhcp to be a usable
machine.
They will only work off a Solaris machine with the Sun Ray software
installed.
