PREPARATORY COMMISSION FOR THE COMPREHENSIVE NUCLEAR-TEST-BAN TREATY
ORGANIZATION

The Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty
with its Headquarters in Vienna, Austria, is the international
organization setting up the global verification system foreseen under
the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), which is the Treaty
banning any nuclear weapon test explosion or any other nuclear
explosion.  The Treaty provides for a global verification regime,
including a network of 321 stations worldwide, a communications system,
an international data centre and on-site inspections to monitor
compliance.

We seek to recruit a highly qualified candidate for the following
position:

    Communications and Hardware Unit

DURATION OF APPOINTMENT:  Three years

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the Head, Communications and Hardware Unit, to:
Establish a schedule of system backups, and a system to implement and
monitor completion of the system backups; ensure 24 hour a day, seven
days a week on-site monitoring of computer communications and data
acquisition systems; train new computer operators in the use of tools
used for computers operations monitoring; evaluate the effectiveness of
monitoring tools in alerting operators to situations requiring
attention, and to recommend to the Infrastructure Section Head changes
of the monitoring tools and procedures required to maintain computer
services for the IDC.

QUALIFICATIONS:
University degree in computer science or a related field;  at least five
years experience in computer operations, including operations of mass
storage systems or high-speed storage arrays, PC operating systems and
UNIX operating system and large LAN systems; fluency in English and a
good knowledge of at least one other of the official languages of the
CTBTO Preparatory Commission.  Excellent communication skills in English
essential.

REMUNERATION/CONTRACT:
Depending on professional background and experience, indicative annual
net base salary (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment)
from US$ 57,609.- (without dependants) and US$ 61,733.-(with
dependants), subject to deductions of contributions to the CTBTO
Provident Fund and Health Insurance Scheme. Additional benefits include,
when applicable, dependency allowance, education grant for children,
rental subsidy, six weeks vacation per year, home leave travel every two
years. Initial contract for fixed-term of three years.
