Solaris 10 & Recommended Patch Cluster problem

Post by mike » Mon, 03 Oct 2005 05:48:06

Can anyone tell me why I'm having so much trouble installing the Sun
Recommended patch cluster onto a Solaris 10 machine (Sun V210)? I've
done
this on Solaris 8 and 9 systems without any difficulty but with 10, my
result are as follows (run from single user mode):

Is their enough free space on the machine?

IIRC there was explinations for the fails somewhere and I think it was
something like:

45: Unable to copy patch data to partial spool directory.

Yes, lot's of space, in fact the 72 GB disks are barely touched. I've
found references to that error message, but it doesn't tell me what to
do to fix it.

Thanks,

Are those patches readable by user nobody?  What happens if you unpack the
cluster in /tmp and install from there?

Have you, per chance, looked in the logs to see why it failed?

A coworker suggested that as well, which I tried but had the same
result.

Right.  And now looking at the 2nd last line above what do you think
I'm going to suggest you do next?

Please at least do a little thinking for yourself before posting.
