Save Workspace under Motif v1.2.4

Save Workspace under Motif v1.2.4

We're trying to mirror, as best as possible, the olwm menus under
motif.  Save workspace seems to be a problem though.

According to the man pages olwm runs the owplaces binary to take a
snapshot of current running x processes and build the .openwin-init
file.  The olwm utilities menu file has a mysterious "SAVE_WORKSPACE"
keyword or variable associated with the Save Workspace option.
This SAVE_WORKSPACE thing is not understood under motif so we exec
owplaces directly with the options specified in the olwm man page.
This works fine except that the positions for all sun tools (perf
meter, calendar mgr, mailtool, etc.) end up with the same x,y start
location.  xterms do not exhibit this behavior.

Anyone have a solution?

1. Do Motif libs (v1.2.4) work w/ ELF?

I'm new to ELF and before upgrading would like
to know if Motif libraries (which I assume are a.out
format) can be linked with ELF libraries such as
libc, libm etc.  I don't want to cough up another $150.
IE, can I do: cc -o test test.c -lm -lX -lXt -lXm

Explanations appreciated.

Thanks,
