UPS Recommedations ?

Post by Doug Hugh » Fri, 16 Aug 1996 04:00:00

We are looking to buy a UPS for our main server.  Something that would
gracefully shut down the machine so that we dont risk data loss.
I have looked at the American Power Conversion offerings and dont
know if any comes with some software for Solaris.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.  Our server has 2 300 watt power
supplies and is running Solaris x86 2.5.1.  with all recommended patches
  applied.

If you get an APC SmartUPS with the Pro software it will indeed do this.
We bought a SmartUPS v/s and I wrote some custom software to do it for
us (and it required a special cable too)

Make sure you got the latest version of the software: v4.2.2 for Sun/Solaris.

It ain't pretty, but it gets the job done...

I have a APC with the powerchute plus package.
The daemon made my sun crash twice, so I disabled it.
This doesn't seem to be a very stable package to me. The UPS is doing its
jobs just fine.

Hello,

I currently have v4.2.1 running w/o any trouble under Solaris 2.4.
Nevertheless, I would like to know where to get in touch with APC via
the Net to download any relevant information/patches.

Could not find any e-mail, WWW or FTP info. in their docs.

Any clue welcome. TIA.
