Sun Workshop 5.0 Developer Release licensing issue!

Post by Anand Kandasam » Tue, 27 Oct 1998 04:00:00

Hello:
On October 23rd, Sun workshop 5.0 Developer release was out on their web
site,
Upon downloading and ready to start the license daemon, I see that, the
FLEXlm
license  file that sun emailed me calls for the "sunwlicd" daemon, while
the software
distribution only contains "sunlicd" (the older daemon).

so does anybody from Sun connected to this can answer, when the new
daemon will
be available at their site ?

Sun Workshop 5.0 Developer Release licensing issue!

Anand,

The following is from one of my coworkers.  In the future, I recommend
using the
Customer Feedback section of the web page to raise this type of issue
to us.

Ben

--------
Anand,

I just installed the licensing bits from this Website, and they're
FLEXlm 6.1
with the suntechd (WorkShop 4.2 and earlier releases) and sunwlicd
(WorkShop
5.0 Developer Release) vendor daemons.  The bits were downloaded
either Friday
or today (I didn't download them, so I don't know which day).

Are you sure you downloaded all the .tar files?  And untarred them
all?  And
remembered to check the box next to "FLEXlm" in the workshop_install
window?

Sun Workshop 5.0 Developer Release licensing issue!

Post by Steve Dy » Wed, 28 Oct 1998 04:00:00

I have a similar problem.  I'm using Sol 2.6 on an Ultra 1/170E.
I also sent this report via the feedback page for Workshop 5.0.

I previously had Workshop 4.2 (well, C/C++ 4.2) installed on this system.

Installing Visual Workshop and explicitly making a point of
installing the License Manager at the same time, gives the following:

cc foo.c

License Error : Licensing product (Sun WorkShop Compiler C SPARC).
        License File: /opt/SUNWspro/bin/../SC5.0/bin/../../license_dir/sunpro.lic,1
Invalid (inconsistent) license key
The license-key and data for the feature do no match.
This usually happens when a license file has been altered
Feature:       workshop.c.sparc
License path:  /opt/SUNWspro/bin/../SC5.0/bin/../../license_dir/sunpro.lic -
   ,1
FLEXlm error:  -8,130
cc: acomp failed for foo.c

The contents of /usr/tmp/license_log is:

14:58:07 (lmgrd)
14:58:07 (lmgrd) FLEXlm (v6.0f) started on arktouros.spdcc.com (Sun) (10/27/1998
)
14:58:07 (lmgrd) FLEXlm Copyright 1988-1997, Globetrotter Software, Inc.
14:58:07 (lmgrd) World Wide Web:  http://www.globetrotter.com
14:58:07 (lmgrd) License file(s): /etc/opt/licenses/licenses_combined
14:58:07 (lmgrd) lmgrd tcp-port 1726
14:58:07 (lmgrd) Starting vendor daemons ...
license daemon: execute process failed: (/etc/opt/licenses/sunwlicd or /etc/opt/
licenses/sunwlicd) -T arktouros.spdcc.com 6.0 4 -c /etc/opt/licenses/licenses_co
mbined
license daemon: system error code: Permission denied
14:58:07 (lmgrd) Please correct problem and restart daemons
14:58:07 (lmgrd) Started sunwlicd (internet tcp_port 65397 pid 0)

There is no symlink called /etc/opt/licenses/sunwlicd, nor can I find
"sunwlicd" installed anywhere else.

Rerunning workshop_install and reinstalling the License Manager
makes no difference.

Sun Workshop 5.0 Developer Release licensing issue!

Post by Julie Dickins » Thu, 29 Oct 1998 04:00:00

Steve,

From your license_log file, you're running FLEXlm 6.0f, which is the
version we used (past tense) for our WorkShop 5.0 Early Access
software.  Later in the license_log file, there's a reference to the
vendor daemon sunwlicd.  sunwlicd is the new vendor daemon for our
WorkShop 5.0 Developer Release (Developer Release is what succeeds
Early Access).  It looks like you got a license file for the WorkShop
5.0 Developer Release software, but did not download/install the
corresponding FLEXlm software (FLEXlm 6.1 plus the sunwlicd vendor
daemon).

If you downloaded from the FTP site on Friday (10/23), there was a
problem with old bits and new bits both being there, but that has been
fixed (Monday 10/26 11:00am PST).  If you downloaded your bits from
here on Friday/Saturday/Sunday/Monday morning, you may need to
redownload.  [The Web page had no problems; it had the new bits on
Friday 10/23.]

I've also checked my email very carefully, because I get copies of all
bugs and comments filed from the WorkShop 5.0 Developer Release Web
page, and I don't have one from you.  Did you file it under Licensing?
- if you filed it under C or C++, I don't get a copy.  I want to make
sure the bug/comment reporting is working correctly....

Yep, I pulled the release from the FTP site listed in the www.sun.com/developer
web pages on Saturday morning.

That must have been the problem!  I'll try again.

I filed it at the same time I posted the news article.  It was filed under
"license installation".

Thanks again!
