Help! SS10 rebooting after panic: recursive mutex_enter

Post by Bruce Liebenbe » Wed, 01 May 1996 04:00:00

Our SS10 running 2.4 has started rebooting itself after printing the
following messages:

  Apr 30 10:16:04 elect2 unix: panic: recursive mutex_enter. mutex
     fc23505c caller fc402da8
Apr 30 10:16:04 elect2 unix: syncing file systems...

What is happening?  I've checked the FAQs and patch reports but can't
find anything.

Any help would be appreciated.  TIA

Does this machine have multiple cpus? Also what level of the
2.4 Kernel patch are you at?  (101945-??)

If it doesn't do what you want, subclass and override.

Help! SS10 rebooting after panic: recursive mutex_enter

We saw this message whenever a system was misconfigured so that an
old local mount point was used, and listed in either the direct map
or auto.home with the same path. When we changed the real mount point
so it was different (e.g. /export in front), the error went away.

I think there have been postings mentioning other causes, too ...

1. HELP: panic: recursive mutex_enter

Until yesterday my SS5/Sol2.4 had a 14.4kbps modem hooked up to it
at 38.4.  It had the "panic: recursive mutex_enter" about once/week.
Yesterday at noon I hooked up a v.34 modem at the same speed and
it has had _twenty_ of these panics.  This morning I went from
101945-23 to 101945-29 (which did reference a mutex_enter fix
although not specifically mine) and it has not helped.  The modem
is attached to the builtin serial port A.
